St Patrick’s day parade and national holiday for the Irish, will soon be here. The exact date is the 17/03/2014 which will fall on a Monday this year but the date always falls on the 17th of March.

This famous celebration of the Saint Patricks day parade is due to the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick, who was born in 385 AD and died on the 17th of March 461 AD.

The story is foretold that Patrick as a young teenager at the age of sixteen, was captured from England by a group of Irish pirates and brought to Ireland to be used or sold into slavery.

St Patrick lived in Ireland for a number of years and while in captivity he became a Shepherd before escaping and returning to England, where he became a cleric and then returned to Ireland.

Legend has it that our Patron Saint Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. It is believed that he banished all the reptiles from Ireland.

The majority of Irish people wear green on this day and also the Shamrock, which is only grown in Ireland.
